General Information

Reporting to the Manager Compression West, this position is responsible for providing high level technical support to field teams, engineering, construction, and management to ensure the safety and reliability of compression facilities; and for providing support for the proper design, construction, operation, and maintenance of mechanical systems for compressor stations and related facilities.  The primary focus for this position to insure the proper and high quality mechanical maintenance is completed to insure reliable operation.  Extensive knowledge of reciprocating engines/compressors utilized in gas transmission service is a requirement for this position.

 

* This position may be filled at any company facility in Kansas or Oklahoma, depending on the location of the successful candidate.

 

Responsibilities

  • Provide consulting services to the Areas for all reciprocating engine/compression maintenance activities;
  • Provide inspection services at critical points of engine/compression overhaul projects;
  • Lead reciprocating engine/compressor inspection preventive maintenance activities;
  • Provide technical and construction/project management assistance to field teams and Project Management;
  • Act as a resource for field teams to identify and resolve problems, analyze malfunctions, guide modifications or repairs, and provide assistance where needed;
  • Identify Maintenance Capital projects needs, define scope, and develop preliminary cost estimates;
  • Provide technical guidance, instruction and assistance related to the operation, maintenance, troubleshooting and modifications of facilities and equipment;
  • Investigate, analyze and make recommendations related to the integrity and/or efficiency of equipment;
  • Maintain and expand expertise in accordance/conjunction with current and emerging technology.  Remain cognizant of how and what leading edge technology is being applied (or not applied) and implement change to ensure the most efficient and effective operations are maintained;
  • Be a conduit for information sharing by communicating best practices, improvement opportunities, new technologies and general information to others in the organization;
  • Promote and provide for standardization among field operations including the standardization of equipment, maintenance functions, programs, and consistent application of procedures;
  • Provide technical guidance and participate in planning, providing and reviewing regional mechanical related  technical training;
  • Provide support for facility audits to insure compliance with Company Standards, Policies and Procedures, and governmental and industry codes;
  • Coordinate logistics relating to site visits for vendors and service providers;
  • Perform vibration testing and analysis as required or recommended by Engineering and analyze the results of such testing;
  • Other tasks as required.

 

Qualifications and Education

Qualifications

  • Ability to effectively interact with all levels of the organization
  • Must be able to handle rapidly shifting priorities and multiple projects concurrently, requiring resolution of complex problems in stressful situations

 

Education / Experience

  • 10+ years of experience in the natural gas industry OR;
  • 7-10 years of experience and an Associate degree (or higher) in a related technical discipline;
  • Extensive experience in compressor station maintenance and operation with a focus on reciprocating engines and compressors.

 

*This position requires candidates to:

  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license and safe driving record;
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing;
  • Be subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and extended workdays and/or workweeks for emergency response purposes;
  • Carry a cell phone and to work a rotating on-call schedule;
  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home;
  • Be subject to hazardous conditions including escaping gas, adverse weather, heights, lifting, and cramped conditions.
