General Information

The Woolfolk Operating Area of TransCanada's ANR Pipeline Company is seeking an Electrical, Instrumentation and Controls Technician. The successful candidate will join a team operating and maintaining a high pressure natural gas pipeline system, associated compressor stations, storage fields, measurement stations, and other related facilities. Reporting to the Woolfolk Area Manager or the Operations Team Lead- Great Lakes Region, this position will execute preventative maintenance, corrective maintenance, and project work in the area. This position requires specialized technical skills to ensure all compressor station, meter station and pipeline control systems and equipment are effectively maintained and safely operated in accordance with TransCanada standards of performance, policies and procedures.

 

Responsibilities

  • Performance of installation, commissioning, testing, repair and maintenance on compressor station, meter station and pipeline controls and equipment, pipeline facilities, metering and regulating equipment, communication systems and other facilities appurtenant to the pipeline system;
  • Performance of routine and major maintenance on gas reciprocating engines, gas turbines packages, gas compressor units and associated auxiliary equipment;
  • Troubleshooting, operation, maintenance, calibration and repair of various types of electronic, electric, pneumatic and hydraulic equipment;
  • Responsibilities will include power, process controls, programmable logic controllers (PLC), electric generation equipment, microwave multiplex equipment, and turbine and orifice meters;
  • Assembly, installation, testing and maintenance of instrumentation, electrical or electronic wiring, equipment, apparatus, and fixtures, using hand tools and power tools;
  • Diagnosing malfunctioning systems, equipment and components using test equipment and hand tools to locate the cause of the breakdown and correct the problem;
  • Connecting wires to circuit breakers, transformers, or other components;
  • Inspecting electrical systems, equipment, and components to identify hazards, defects, and the need for adjustments or repair, and to ensure compliance with codes;
  • Testing electrical systems and continuity of circuits in electrical wiring, equipment and fixtures using testing devices such as ohmmeters, voltmeters, frequency generators and oscilloscopes, to ensure compatibility and safety of systems;
  • Comply with work order process and follow progress to ensure completion;
  • Receive and maintain equipment documentation (blue prints, schematics, line diagrams, technical manuals, operation manuals) and serve as the facility technical resource in their review and use;
  • Accept supervision and work cooperatively with co-workers, customer representative, regulators and others;
  • Independently enter and locate data on computerized systems;
  • oversee project activities by actively controlling contractor tasks/duties;
  • Understand and apply emergency management planning procedures;
  • Ensure work tasks and duties comply with the HS&E policies and procedures;
  • Respond to customer / business partner needs in a timely manner;
  • Other tasks as required.

 

Qualifications and Education

Qualifications

  • Excellent analytical and trouble shooting skills typically required for the maintenance of compressor control systems;
  • Problem solver and creative thinker in order to provide solutions to improving the equipment performance;
  • Competent in interpreting technical reference documents;
  • Competent in the use of test equipment applicable to the maintenance of control systems;
  • Excellent work safety record and safe work attitude;
  • Good mechanical aptitude;
  • Excellent interpersonal, teamwork, and organization skills;
  • Good oral and written communications skills;
  • Good computer software skills;
  • Must work effectively alone and in a team environment.

 

Education/Experience

  • High School diploma or equivalent required;
  • Associates degree in electronics/controls or equivalent experience preferred;
  • Relevant oil and gas industry experience would be an asset;
  • Industrial experience in a plant environment would be an asset;
  • Industrial PLC experience will be an asset;
  • Previous high pressure gas transmission operational experience will be an asset;
  • Previous experience in the oil and gas industry would be considered an asset.

 

* This position requires candidates to:

  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license;
  • Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing;
  • Be available for overtime, extended work hours, and call-outs as needed;
  • Be required to carry a company cell phone to work a rotating on-call schedule and be subject to 24-hr/day callout for emergency response.
