The opportunity

 

Our public affairs and communications team is evolving to meet the needs of our growing business. We’re looking for a senior communications specialist to work with the Human Resources (HR) client group. Our HR communications team is responsible for:

  • Building TransCanada’s reputation as an employer of choice and delivering recruitment marketing strategies to attract top talent
  • Fostering a culture of strong leadership, employee engagement, high performance, and results
  • Delivering communications to support HR goals and projects, while enhancing the success of change initiatives

 

The successful candidate is a seasoned communications professional who has knowledge and experience in a broad range of communications strategies and approaches. They will play an important role in supporting a wide range of communications activities, delivering high-quality internal and external communications materials, and producing content for our digital communications channels.

What you’ll do

 

Under the direction of the HR communications client lead, the successful candidate will:

  • Understand the business challenges and opportunities for HR;
  • Provide communications consulting on projects and initiatives in the areas of total rewards, talent management, and talent acquisition;
  • Develop integrated internal/external communications strategies that enhance TransCanada’s brand and reputation, support understanding, and drive action;
  • Manage the tactical execution of communications plans, collaborating with our corporate communications centres of excellence, and our external vendors;
  • Create engaging, informative and audience-centric communications including: employee and leader emails and briefings, intranet and external website content, program guides, presentations, videos, display booths, brochures and collateral, and content for social media and other digital marketing and communications channels;
  • Monitor and measure communications results an;d continually improve effectiveness.

 

Minimum Qualifications

 

  • University degree in communications, journalism, public relations, or business;
  • Minimum of 6 - 9 years' progressive, related experience in various aspects of corporate communications.

 

Preferred Qualifications

 

  • Communications expertise - able to develop integrated internal/external communications strategies and digital marketing plans;
  • Consulting – able to think strategically, weigh issues, and recommend effective solutions; able to navigate and resolve ambiguity;
  • Strong, versatile writing – able to write in many styles for a variety of internal and external audiences; ranging from developing technical and detailed program information to storytelling and producing engaging content for digital and social media;
  • Project management – able to prioritize and organize communications project work, and coordinate the work of team members;
  • Change management – able to develop communications for change initiatives;
  • A team player with a customer service focus – able to build strong relationships and rapport with clients and team members, and meet customer requirements under the pressure of tight deadlines;
  • Curiosity and motivation to learn about the HR function and subject-matter;
  • Experience working in employee communications and/or HR communications in a complex corporate environment is an asset.
