TransCanada is seeking a Supply Chain Category Lead, for Environmental Services to join our Supply Chain  Management team. *This position will either be located in Houston, Texas or Calgary, Alberta. The successful candidate will be legally able to work in either location.

 

General Information

Reporting to the Category Manager for Professional Services, the Category Lead will be responsible for leading the development and execution of innovative yet practical category management strategies in collaboration with business partners that deliver sustainable enterprise value including achievement of service improvements, increased innovation, risk mitigation, and total lifecycle value for the business.The role will collaborate with the environmental services teams, business units, Supply Chain and other stakeholders to manage categories from demand planning, contract execution and management, and category and supplier performance management to ongoing sourcing efforts.

 

Responsibilities

• Develop and maintain formal category strategies and associated execution plan;

• Establish strategic sourcing objectives, plans, strategies and targets for business value delivery in collaboration with the Strategic Sourcing team;

• Obtain early business unit engagement to ensure the demand plan is analyzed and internal commitment and executive support is gained for identified opportunities;

• Support team members in the implementation of sourcing activities and category management strategies;

• Work with key stakeholders to support the definition of business requirements and demand forecasting requirements;

• Share market analysis regarding supply marketplace intelligence on key suppliers including capabilities, financial strength, price trends, etc.;

• Consult and work with Supply Chain Lead Contract-Sourcing Specialists to establish best in class contracts and contract management practices for strategic agreements;

• Promote Lean and Operational Excellence practices by participating in activities such as team huddles and problem solving to promote continuous improvement;

• Lead category management initiatives, developing and supporting strong cross functional teams for each initiative;

• Manage key supplier relationships, establish supplier performance strategies and proactively monitor supplier performance;

• Manage supplier scorecards and facilitate regular supplier feedback discussions, highlighting potential quality trends;

• Provide reporting on delivery of savings and value objectives against agreed strategic sourcing and category management plans;

• Communicate to end users regarding new agreements, appropriate usage and performance measurement;

• Understand and utilize various Costing Models and category value / performance analysis;

• Coordinate the development of performance based specifications and scopes of work with business units and suppliers.

 

Qualifications

• Ability to manage multiple stakeholder expectations;

• Demonstrated ethical business practices and integrity;

• Strong business aptitude with the ability to be innovative;

• Ability to handle multiple assignments on a timely basis with a high degree of accuracy, strong organization, time management, and planning skills.

 

Education/Experience

• University degree with minimum 10 years of related experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience will be considered;

• Masters degree would be considered a strong asset;

• Enrollment or completion of Supply Chain related certifications or a designation is an asset;

• Project management, people management skills, commercial and financial acumen are a requirement;

• Superior written and oral communication required;

• Ability to lead and manage change;

• Outstanding negotiation skills and the ability to drive consensus between stakeholders required;

• Knowledge of TransCanada’s Supply Chain processes and systems is preferred;

• Relevant industry (Oil and Gas, Manufacturing, Mining, Energy, other) experience with supplies through a category management / strategic sourcing model is preferred.
