General Information

TransCanada is seeking a Tax Manager to join our Taxation department and report to the Director, Canadian Tax. To be our successful candidate you need an interest in, or career aspirations related to, Corporate Tax and must bring initiative and commitment to the Corporate tax
team. Your focus in this role will be Canadian Tax, including Tax Provisioning and will involve working closely with various CFO, Legal and Business Units within the organization to ensure tax compliance.

 

Responsibilities

• Support TransCanada's overall tax strategy through developing and implementing tax planning opportunities and tax minimization strategies;
• Supervise a small team of tax professionals;
• Collaborate with, and provide indirect supervisor and guidance to, other team members;
• Review, research and provide guidance on compliance issues;
• Review Tax provisions and research tax accounting issues;
• Involvement in special projects including acquisitions and greenfield developments;
• Coordinate with Corporate Accounting, Legal, Treasury and Finance departments to provide tax guidance for TransCanada's business units as necessary;
• Review the work of and assist with the development of junior tax staff members;
• Represent TransCanada on industry tax committees;
• Other tasks as required.

 

Qualifications

• Excellent communication skill and interpersonal skills with the ability to interact effectively with senior management as well as external parties;
• Strong team player willing to collaborate and committed to team goals, as well as leadership capabilities;
• Strong project management skills, able to manage multiple and competing priorities, accountable for commitments while consistently delivering results within tight deadlines;
• Thrives under pressure having strong organizational skills and the ability to make important decisions in a dynamic environment;
• Passionate about identifying and initiating continuous improvement opportunities and managing change to better the organization;
• Strategic mindset with experience in managing many initiatives with a result-orientated focus and strong execution and implementation skills
• Demonstrated initiative and sound judgement when resolving complex issues;
• Proven systems thinker with strong analytical, process and problem resolution skills;
• Ability to handle confidential information and materials.

 

 

Education/Experience

• Professional accountant with a minimum 10 years of related experience;
• Completion of the CICA In-Depth Tax Course is preferred;
• Strong technical tax knowledge;
• Canadian Regulatory tax accounting experience would be considered an asset.

 

This position requires candidates to successfully complete a security clearance/criminal record check.
