General Information
The Controls Technician will apply their skills and aptitude to repair, install, troubleshoot, and perform other planned maintenance and corrective tasks on assigned electronic, electrical, pneumatic and/or mechanical control systems, devices, and ancillary equipment. This position also operates and maintains natural gas compression and auxiliary equipment, operates and maintains assigned equipment in a manner to meet operational needs in compliance with company and regulatory requirements, maintains core operational task qualifications, and will be required to perform tasks from other disciplines. A fully certified Journeyman Electrician with a minimum of 5 years industry relevant experience is preferred. This position is overtime eligible, part of an on-call rotation and provides emergency support as required.  Some travel may also be required. This position is based out of Dawson Creek reporting to the Grande Prairie Area Manager.

In addition to having the qualifications, experience and ability to competently and effectively perform the duties assigned, the Electrical Instrumentation & Controls Technician (EIC) will:

• Independently perform installation, testing, repair, and maintenance on compressor station equipment, and other facilities relevant to the pipeline system as required;
• Troubleshoot, test, & maintain shutdown devices, fire & gas systems, auxiliary systems, HVAC systems, relief and Over Pressure Protection devices, control valves, PLC’s & control systems;
• Install & configure software in control systems;
• Perform routine and major maintenance on gas turbine packages, gas compressor units, meter station asset equipment and associated auxiliary equipment, assist with pipeline asset maintenance;
• Perform emergency repairs to meet customer and client needs;
• Oversee the safe and efficient completion of projects;
• Active control of contractors;
• Ensure facilities and personnel comply with TransCanada's safety, health, environment, and risk standards;
• Procure resources and manage within budgets for the facilities;
• Provide support to our business partners as required;
• Other tasks as required.

Qualifications and Education
•Excellent analytical and troubleshooting skills;
•Demonstrated effective written & verbal communication skills;
•Previous experience with Allen Bradley PLC5 and RsLogix 5000;
•Competent using equipment applicable to the maintenance of control systems;
•Highly motivated with interpersonal skills to effectively work in a collaborative team environment that includes shared responsibilities, establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with others, support team and company objectives, and a willingness to work in all areas required by the team;
•Current with technological advances in the compression field;
•Fully competent and current with all Health, Safety and Environment standards and training.

• A fully certified Journeyman Electrician with a minimum of 5 years industry relevant experience;
• High School diplomat/GED required,  certified Technician/Technologist preferred.
• Previous experience working with high pressure natural gas would be considered an asset.
• SAP experience would be considered an asset;
