General Information
Reporting to the Mountainview Field Operations Area Manager, as the Electrical Instrument & Controls (EIC) Technician located in Edson, Alberta you will apply your skills and aptitude to repair, install, troubleshoot, and perform planned maintenance and corrective tasks on assigned electronic, electrical, pneumatic and/or mechanical control systems, devices, and ancillary equipment.

In this position, you will operate and maintain natural gas compression and auxiliary equipment in a manner which meets operational needs in compliance with company and regulatory requirements. In this role, you will be required to perform tasks from other disciplines.

 

Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training will be required. Travel will involve some overnight stays away from home base.

 

This position is overtime eligible, part of an on-call rotation and may be requested to provide support during emergency response incidents or extended days due to operational needs, as required.

 

Responsibilities
• Ensure facilities and personnel comply with TransCanada's Community, Safety and Environment policies and procedures as well as accepted risk standards;
• Perform installation, testing, repair, and maintenance on compressor station equipment, and other facilities relevant to the pipeline system as required;
• Troubleshoot, test, & maintain shutdown devices, fire & gas systems, auxiliary systems, HVAC systems, relief and Over Pressure Protection devices, control valves, PLC’s & control systems;
• Install & configure software in control systems;
• Conduct routine regular maintenance on gas turbine packages, gas compressor units, meter station asset equipment and associated auxiliary equipment;
• Provide coaching, mentoring and training to other personnel;
• Lead/manage the safe and efficient completion of low/medium complexity projects including the coordination and monitoring of contractor work activities or third party active control;
• Perform emergency repairs to meet customer and client needs;
• Provide support to our business partners as required;
• Complete all administrative functions related to position and duties;
• Maintain core operational task qualifications;
• Other tasks as required.

 

Qualifications and Education
• Highly motivated and disciplined with strong interpersonal skills to effectively work in a collaborative team environment;
• Ability to work independently in the execution of specific duties while sharing responsibilities in support of team and company objectives;
• Completion of tasks and assignments in a safe and environmentally responsible manner including ensuring proper handling and disposition of hazardous waste is required;
• Demonstrated ability to competently and efficiently perform the duties assigned based on qualifications and experience;
• Effective written and verbal communication skills;
• Willingness to work in all areas required by the team;
• Proven planning and organization skills;
• Excellent communication, analytical and troubleshooting skills;
• Competent using equipment applicable to the maintenance of control systems;
• Current with technological advances in the compression field;
• Utilize computers and e-mail for internal and external communication, record keeping, maintenance management, on-line reporting, material and supply ordering and filing of various forms;
• Fully competent and current with all Health, Safety and Environment standards and training.

 

Education/Experience:
• A fully certified Journeyman Electrician or equivalent is required;
• Minimum of 5 years industry relevant experience is preferred;
• Other industry related certification and/or related trades experience considered an asset;
• Computerized Maintenance Management System and SAP experience considered an asset;
• Experience with the interpretation of technical reference documents.
