General Information

Reporting to the Manager, U.S. Payroll, Pension and Benefits, this position's primary accountability is the ongoing administration and management of the TransCanada’s Retirement Program and 401(k) and Savings Plans for U.S. employees.



  • Manage ongoing retirement program administration to ensure efficiency, accuracy and compliance with applicable legislation, regulations and internal SOX requirements;
  • Provide support, guidance and decision making for all aspects of daily program administration
  • Oversee review, reconciliation and processing of regular 401(k) contributions changes and corrections, and various payroll deductions to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Oversee reconciliation and processing of lump sum and pension payments.
  • Provide analytical support and assist with development of presentations and reports.
  • Respond to questions and requests from employees, HR team members and Third Party Administrators.
  • Manage regular annual projects such as plan audits, 401(k) true up payments, non-discrimination testing, pension statements and regulatory filings.
  • Prepare employee communications, including SPDs, employee booklets and website content.
  • Prepare, update and review plan documents for qualified and non-qualified plans.
  • Provide ongoing support to the U.S. Payroll, Pension and Benefits team and perform other pension and benefit administration duties as required.
  • Collaborate with other HR team members on cross-functional projects to improve the efficiency of current and/or new processes and procedures.
  • Maintain a working knowledge of related laws and processes (ERISA, HIPPA, etc.).
  • Tests benefits system requirements to ensure data integrity.
  • Develop process and/or system improvements.
  • Build and maintain strong working relationships with third-party administrators;
  • Collaborate with other HR team members on cross-functional projects to improve the efficiency of current and/or new processes and procedures.
  • Other tasks as required.



Qualifications and Education



  • Ability to work in a collaborative team environment;
  • Strong work ethic and positive team attitude;
  • Strong problem solving and prioritization skills;
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills;
  • Ability to deal with changing priorities and multi-task in a fast-paced environment;
  • Ability to maintain a high degree of confidentiality
  • Excellent analytical and mathematical skills, including attention to detail.
  • Knowledge of ERISA, DOL regulations, HIPAA, COBRA, IRS section 125 and PPACA [JR1]  .
  • Advanced computer skills with strong proficiency in Excel.



  • Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent;
  • Minimum 6 years of experience in Benefits or Human Resources related experience;
  • Experience with SAP;
  • Experience with Ceredian DayForce or similar payroll system would be an asset;
  • Experience using ServiceNow or similar case management tool would be an asset.



*Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home.

*This position will require travel across borders and as such the candidate must be able to provide applicable documentation to this affect.
