General Information


SUPPLY CHAIN NEW GRADUATE ROTATION PROGRAM: Three-year program for a new graduate, comprising three rotations of approximately 12 months each, starting May 2019.


TransCanada’s US Supply Chain department is introducing a New Graduate Rotation Program, in which the employee will spend approximately 12 months in each of three different Supply Chain roles. The ideal candidate will be looking to develop a career in Supply Chain Management and interested in gaining diverse experience in this part of TransCanada’s organization.


In each rotation, the new graduate will obtain a broad understanding of business facing departments that provide front-line support to TransCanada’s projects or operations.  Support might include purchasing, strategic sourcing, supplier performance management, performance analytics and process enhancements.


The intention is for the program to provide the new employee with experience across the entire Supply Chain lifecycle and enable continued success in a permanent role, following the rotation program, to be determined with the employee and Supply Chain leadership.


Responsibilities may include the following (and is dependent on the specific job rotation within the program):

  • Collaboration with team members, leaders, and other Supply Chain functions to support business needs;
  • Interfacing with internal business clients, internal stakeholder groups, and suppliers;
  • Data compilation and analysis (e.g. spend analytics, demand planning, forecasting, performance reporting);
  • Preparation of contracting strategies, sourcing packages, decision documents, and commercial agreements;
  • Creation and delivery of communications materials/presentations for Supply Chain ranging from front line staff to senior leaders;
  • Evaluation of supplier proposals, negotiation of commercial terms, and recommendation on award decisions;
  • Supporting qualification of vendors;
  • Ensuring materials and services are procured in accordance with TransCanada’s supplier standards, processes and procedures;
  • Contract administration, including execution of amending agreements and change orders;
  • Driving maximum value and compliance of contracts by coaching and partnering with business clients and internal Supply Chain stakeholders;
  • Timely and fair resolution of supplier issues in a manner that preserves working relationships, while protecting the company’s interests and delivering the agreed upon business outcomes;
  • Assessment and monitoring of Supply Chain systems processes, and engagement in process optimization;
  • Identification of opportunities for continuous improvement and presentation of analysis and recommendations for leadership review.


Qualifications and Education



  • Well-developed organizational and multi-tasking skills;
  • Ability to work well under pressure and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment with changing circumstances;
  • A strong team player with well-developed interpersonal skills, demonstrating a high level of initiative, cooperation and sharing of tasks;
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills and the capability to manage information and data;
  • Strong influencing and negotiation skills, able to drive consensus between stake holders with differing opinions;
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, and the ability to apply technical software;
  • Attention to detail and the ability to capture and report information accurately;
  • Demonstrated judgment and awareness with topics/matters that are confidential and competition-sensitive;
  • Ability to learn new applications effectively and efficiently.
  • Demonstrate discretion in dealing with sensitive matters and maintain confidentiality of information and documents;
  • Ability to work independently but committed to contributing to and supporting a team environment;
  • Intermediate to advanced working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Excel, Word, PowerPoint and Outlook.



  • Degree in Business, with preference given for specialization in Supply Chain Management;
  • Knowledge of and/or experience with contracts, Supply Chain best practices and processes;
  • Knowledge of and/or experience in the oil and gas sector, and especially pipeline industry, is considered an asset.
