EIC Technician

 

Location:                           El Oro Compressor Station – Los Mochis, Sinaloa

General Information:

The TransCanada’s operating North Region administrated by its affiliate IEM is seeking an Electrical, Instruments and Controls Technician to work at the El Oro Compressor Station and surrounding areas. The successful candidate will work on a team that operates and maintains a high pressure natural gas pipeline system, turbine driven compressor station, gas measurement equipment and other related facilities and is subject to hazardous conditions including; escaping high pressure gas, adverse weather conditions, working from heights, heavy lifting and cramped conditions. This position is overtime eligible and extended work hours may be required on occasion without advance notice including nights, weekends and holidays.

 

Responsibilities:

Activities may include but are not limited to:

  • Operation, maintenance and repair of pipeline, compression, gas process measurement and analysis equipment, control systems, end devices (pressure, temperature, flow, vibration, gas and fire detection), telecommunications equipment, valves and operators, regulators, relief valves, blow down purging and pressurization of pipelines and stations, and performing line locates on company and others pipelines; all within company operating procedures and in accordance to Mexican regulations;

  • Actively participates in a team environment by acquiring and applying required qualifications, supporting the development of team members, performing administrative duties and assisting with planning, problem solving, prioritization and decision making processes;

  • Safely perform all work activities including operate company vehicles;

  • Analyze equipment performance reports, initiate corrective action to review and improve maintenance procedures;

  • Tasks execution and accurate issuance of records according to Key Performance Indicators (KPI) in order to comply with company goals and objectives in short, medium and long term basis;

  • Active participation in one or more supplemental roles according to TransCanada programs and committees;

  • Read, interpret and update drawings and schematics (basic and detailed engineering);

  • Properly use a variety of hand, power tools and testing equipment;

  • Utilize diagnostic tools such as volt-ohm meters, ammeters, and oscilloscopes;

  • Utilize computers and e-mail for internal and external communication, record keeping, on-line reporting, material and supply ordering and filing of various forms;

  • Inventory administration and material handling;

  • Utilize computers to interface with various PLCs and controllers. Be familiar with various communications protocols, (RS232, RS485, and Ethernet over copper and fiber optic media);

  • Performs other tasks as defined by the team, and maintains general housekeeping and appearance of assigned facilities;

  • Other tasks as required.

     

    Qualifications and Education:

     

    Qualifications and Abilities:

  • Experience with controls and measurement systems and instrumentation including but not limited to: pressure, temperature, flow, and vibration transmitters, gas and fire detection, pressure regulating equipment and valve operators;

  • Experience with electrical equipment and devices including but not limited to: motors, MCC, automatic transfer switches, distribution panels, main breakers, transformers and other substation elements;

  • Ability to troubleshoot, operate and maintain gas chromatographs, ultrasonic meters, mixture analyzers, turbine driven gas compressors, standby generators, oil coolers, air compressors, cooler fans, pumps and gear boxes, valves and operators and other auxiliary equipment;

  • Candidate must exhibit a sense of urgency, individual responsibility and a willingness to accept constantly changing priorities;

  • Must be qualified or able to qualify in, and to advance individual skills as assigned/required by team within defined deadlines;

  • Effective written and verbal communication as well as interpersonal skills to work in a collaborative team environment that includes: shared responsibilities, stakeholder relations, establishing and maintaining good working relationships with others to support team and company objectives and a willingness to work in all areas i.e. controls, mechanical, pipeline, or measurement as required by team;

  • Subject to call out 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and extended workdays and/or workweeks for emergency response purposes;

  • Will be required to carry a cell phone and to work a rotating on-call schedule;

  • Must have a strong safety attitude and be environmentally and socially responsible.

     

    Education:

  • Discipline associated bachelors degree including courses in electrical and pneumatic troubleshooting (equivalent work experience may be considered in lieu of education);

  • Knowledge of electronic and electrical test equipment use for troubleshooting with associated equipment such as transmitters, switches, pressure and temperature end devices;

  • Relevant oil and gas industry experience would be desired;

  • Bi-lingual in Spanish and English would be an asset;

  • Industrial experience in a plant environment would be an asset;

  • Knowledge of Safety Programs requirements also beneficial.

     

    This position requires the candidate to:

  • Have and maintain a valid driver’s license;

  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home.

  • Depending on the qualifications of the applicants, the successful candidate may be offered a position at a more appropriate level and/or ladder.
