General Information
Based out of the Mackenzie Area office in Manning, Alberta the Area Manager is primarily responsible for overseeing the safe, compliant and reliable operation and maintenance of TransCanada’s Gas Assets in the Mackenzie Area, located in northwest Alberta. The Area Manager will report to the Director of the Wildrose Region in the Canadian Gas Organization.

Responsibilities
 

As Area Manager you are responsible to:
• Provide leadership to continuously improve your teams’ business performance in terms of health, safety and environment, compliance, reliability and productivity;
• Ensure compliance with all relevant federal, provincial, and local regulatory requirements and company policies and procedures pertaining to operations and maintenance;
• Understand and manage facility risks, reliability and performance;
• Understand and implement Canada Gas Operations Strategies;
• Effectively manage all resources, including people, finances, materials and time to ensure maximum efficiency in planning, forecasting, and implementation;
• Develop and foster an environment which actively enables and encourages employee innovation, continuous improvement, and commitment to operational excellence;
• Actively participate in the development of goals and objectives from Region to Area level and lead the efforts to achieve these goals in the Area;
• Manage Operations and Maintenance contracts, understand Commercial Agreements and Asset Management Plans;
• Develop, manage and monitor budgets for the area;
• Effectively work and interact with peers to optimize regional results and contribute to company success;
• Ensure that TransCanada has a positive and visible image in the communities within the Area and actively engage with key Stakeholders;
• Manage and coordinate emergency response with a requirement to be on call to respond to emergency situations.

 

As a leader in Field Operations, you will be expected to:
• Model and hold team members accountable to model TransCanada's values;

• Build and develop a strong, competent, proactive, and engaged team;
• Develop succession plans for your team;
• Provide your team with excellent performance feedback, appropriate rewards, recognition, and coaching;
• Continuously develop your leadership competencies while maintaining a current knowledge of company strategy, goals, and objectives;
• Ensure that company resources are effectively utilized to improve reliability and availability of our facilities and to support regional operations;
• Contribute to companywide objectives and initiatives;
• Travel throughout the area and attend regional meetings - travel may be up to 50% of a month at times.

 

As a member of the Regional Leadership Team, you will be required to:
• Work collaboratively to establish the Region's strategies, goals, and business plan.
• Commit to the execution of the Region's key priorities of excellence in the areas of Safety, Compliance, Reliability, Productivity and Culture.
• Represent the company and foster critical partnerships both internally and externally.
• Be a champion for continuous improvement and change management.

 

Qualifications and Education/Experience

 

Qualifications
• Knowledge and familiarity with TransCanada's business vision, strategies, practices, processes and systems;
• An excellent track record of development and execution of plans;
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills combined with the ability to utilize those skill during interactions with peers, employees, internal and external customers, and community groups;
• Experience with conflict resolution and problem solving tools and processes;
• Experience in effective resource allocation and utilization in the financial, people and procurement areas;
• Demonstrated leadership in the health, safety, and environment, change management, employee development, performance management, and team building areas;
• Knowledge of TransCanada's Leadership competencies and a commitment to career development.
 

Education and Experience
• Successful completion of a Bachelor's Degree or Diploma in a relevant field of study;
• Related experience preferably in a managerial or leadership type setting is an asset;
• An equivalent combination of training and experience may be considered.

 

*This position requires successful candidate to:
• Participate in the management on call rotation;
• Have and maintain a valid Driver's License;
• Provide a Driver's Abstract for review;
• Successfully complete a pre-employment medical screening, including drug and alcohol testing.
