General Information

Reporting to the Operations Team Leader, the Gas Measurement & Regulation Mechanic acts as a "Leadperson" Engaged in installing, removing, maintaining, testing, calibrating and repairing complex electronic and pneumatic pressure control and telemarketing equipment and other related measurement instruments.


*This position is represented by the United Steelworkers Local 372 and the filling of the position is subject to the terms and conditions of the governing collective agreement.

*The successful candidate will reside within 30 miles or 45 minutes of the Alexandria Measurement Station in order to comply with emergency response requirements.



  • Acts as "Leadperson" engaged in installing, removing, testing, maintaining, calibrating and repairing equipment by performance of such duties as: tests, calibrates and maintains, runways, orifice plates, pressure and differential elements, displacement and rotary type meters; integrating indexes, recording gauges, specific gravity balances; recording gravitometer, recording thermometer, mechanical type pulsameter, chart drives, differential limit controllers and meter run shut-off valves, flow pressure and temperature controllers; regulators, telemetering transmitting equipment, remotely operated pneumatic and hydraulic plug valve actuators; tests and maintains indirect fired heaters and relief valves;
  • Contacts producers, wholesale customers, industrial customers, etc., relative to joint testing and change in operation; maintains route book, test and information records; uses various hand tools such as electric drills, grinders, micrometers, calipers, plug gauges, etc.; uses various testing equipment such as: mercury and water manometer, dead weight and spring type gauges,  gravitometer, frequency meter and OHM-meter; investigates meter and chart complaints and may assign to others for investigation;
  • Performs leak test of measuring and regulating facilities by use of explosimeter;
  • Fills stationary sample tanks and determines specific gravity;
  • Engaged in installing and removing measuring and regulating stations, buildings, gas heaters, telemetering, remote control and related instruments by: assists in planning, estimating, scheduling and coordinating and directing installations of equipment; works from fabrication and erection drawings and reports, loading and unloading materials, inspecting contracted work and operating unmanned stations; instructs chart changers pertaining to proper procedure;
  • On occasions, shuts-in or turns-on wells during testing or maintenance operations; installs and operates methanol injectors; blows meter drips and removes freezes from meter runs, gauge lines, manifolds and regulators; inspects contracted work;
  • Responsible for appropriate assigned duties for completion of work orders utilizing computerized maintenance system program;
  • Uses computer for various tasks including but not limited to, time entry, e-mail, environmental reporting, station reporting, intranet, etc.;
  • Knowledgeable of appropriate health and safety training in order to follow appropriate safety standards;
  • Assists in planning of work and participates as necessary in safety and/or team meetings and discussions;
  • Exchange clock batteries in rotary and orifice meters;
  • Performs testing, maintenance, installation and removal of various types of meters and/or regulation equipment;
  • Perform leak tests on tubing and runways;
  • Operation and maintenance of valves;
  • Install and repair catalytic heaters;
  • Operates pneumatic flow controllers; pilot operated and self-operated regulators; relief valves; and tests and operates security valves;
  • Operates and maintains Indirect fire heaters including relief valves; heater controls with temperature controllers;
  • Ensures to environmental policies are followed by collecting samples as appropriate;
  • Ability to communicate with producers, landowners, public and federal agencies;
  • Works closely with gas control on various issues;
  • Install, operate and maintain chromatograph;
  • Install, operate and maintain electronic measurement;
  • Must be able to identify atmospheric corrosion inspection.


Qualifications and Education

  • High school diploma or GED required;
  • Basic Computer skills required;
  • Must be certified by P.S.C to pass both an oral and performance test for Large Volume Displacement and Orifice Meters;
  • Must be capable of obtaining required op-qual tasks for the position.

  • Carry a cell phone and to work a rotating on-call schedule;

  • Travel to other company locations for temporary assignments, meetings or training which would involve some overnight stays away from home.
